Hi, I had this , fixed it by right click L4D 2 in steam games list, left click properties, open local files and click Verify integrity of game cache, this worked for me it takes a few mins, it found missing files and downloaded them from steam, I had to close it all down and re start but after that it worked fine, back to killing zombies now. Good luck.
